BACKGROUND

This business, The Dance Family Studio started by giving to charities.  In 1996 our founders, Francisco and Stacey, met as co-choreographers on a charity event they volunteered for in their "off time," after their "real jobs."   They then teamed up and went on to perform, choreograph and instruct for numerous large-scale charity events including The City of Hope and The March of Dimes.

After performances or large shows, Francisco and Stacey started getting calls from former cast members, audience members and friends with requests for dance performances and classes.  That's how it all started.  A local church opened up their basement to start their social dance program, and in 1998 the team quit their "real jobs" and have been teaching, performing, and teaching others how to teach ever since.

They started with charity work, and never want to stop giving to charities they believe in!

WHERE YOU COME IN!  Tell The Dance Family about charities who could use these donations:

  • Donations to Silent Auctions.  For gift certificates for a month of lessons for a couple.  Please contact info@thedancefamily.com or mail your request to us at the address above.

  • Donation of Performances for charity events.  If you know of a charity event which would like a performance by one of our performance teams, mail your request to us a the address above or email  info@thedancefamily.com.  If the event provides a financial stipend for entertainment, this would go toward the Performance Team's costuming and traveling costs.

  • Charity Event Dance Instruction and crowd involvement.  In a few cases, this can arranged (depending on availability and the discretion of Performance Team Director).

Due to scheduling conflicts or other limitations not all requests can be fulfilled.  However, we will follow-up with every request and we're honored to be considered by you to use dance as a way to help others.

Event Coordinators:   Should a performance or instruction for an event be involved, The Dance Family Studio will create all the documentation  necessary for clarification of all details and agreements of services provided.  The Dance Family does not need a receipt for donations or acknowledgement of services provided.  We do not use these for tax purposes.

OPPORTUNITIES TO GIVE AT THE STUDIO:

  • Operation Christmas Child (October-November annually) Students put together shoeboxes filled with small gifts for kids around the world who would not otherwise receive a  Christmas gift.  We collect all of the shoeboxes mid-November and bring them to the drop off point so they can be delivered internationally.

  • Blanket & Socks Collection (January annually) We put out two big boxes at the studio to collect Blankets and Socks for the less fortunate on Skid Row. They are delivered to Skid Row until February 7th. Collection includes

    • gently used and new blankets

    • new socks for children and adults

    • tarps for rain coverage

    • winter caps

  • Can Drive Collection for Union Station, Pasadena (March) We collect canned goods and deliver them on behalf of "The Dance Family" to Union Station.

Thanks for helping the giving continue.

Dear Family and Friends,

On May 9th, I will join hundreds of law enforcement officers from around the country who will bicycle along varying routes, each over 300 miles to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial (NLEOM) in Washington DC . This year, The Police Unity Tour – Southern California Chapter will have 75 police officers representing L.A.P.D., L.A. County Sheriff, Beverly Hills P.D., Burbank P.D., Palos Verdes Estates P.D., Pasadena and Alhambra PD. Our route will take us from Portsmouth , Virginia to Fredericksburg, Virginia and on to Washington DC., where on May 13th a candlelight vigil will be held at the Memorial. On that night, the names of the officers who have died in the line of duty in 2008 will be read before a crowd of thousands.

The primary purpose of the Police Unity Tour is to raise awareness about the police officers that have died in the line of duty. Out motto is, “We Ride For Those Who Died.” The secondary purpose is to raise funds for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial and Museum. Since its’ inception in 1997, the Police Unity Tour has raised $5.3 million to support the NLEOM, with $1.25 million raised during last years’ 12th annual Tour. Officers riding in the Tour must raise a minimum of $1,800. The Tour provides support services including over-night lodgings and food while we ride, however each officer must pay for their own transportation to and from the east coast as well as some meals and other miscellaneous expenses. Last year, generous donations from individuals and organizations, allowed me to raise over “1800.00" for the Police Unity Tour.

It is because of the incredible support of my friends, family and colleagues that I am able to participate in the Tour this year and not let the heroes who have died in the line of duty be forgotten. Once again I am asking for your financial support to allow me to ride in the Police Unity Tour. Donations to the Police Unity Tour, Inc. (a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization, Tax ID# 22-3530541) can be made payable to: Police Unity Tour, Inc. Donations to assist in my personal expenses should be made payable to “NICK ORTIZ”. All checks should be sent to “295 NORTH CHESTER AVE., PASADENA CA 91106”. It would be helpful if your donation were received by April 1st.

Thank you so very much for your consideration in supporting the Police Unity Tour.

                              Sincerely,

                            NICK ORTIZ
